Catholic Boarding Schools for Girls – Parents Guide to Catholic Schools

Throughout one's life, one cannot deny the importance of having something to believe in. For many people, the defining element in their lives could be their religion. It's undeniable what a great impact religion has on the lives of people and on the choices that they make along the way. Parents who grew up in a Catholic home and have experienced Catholic upbringing, naturally want their children to grow up in an environment that places as much importance on the Catholic faith.

Some people also have their doubts about enrolling girls in an all-girls school. However, there are benefits that come with enrolling your child in a Catholic boarding school for girls. Here are a few of them:

1. She will be exposed to fewer distractions - There are inherent distractions that parents can expect when adolescent boys and girls are mixed in the same environment. Without such social distractions, girls are more able to focus on being themselves and explore their identity without thinking about social stereotypes at a very crucial stage in their life. Studies show that girls who go to all-girls schools tend to do better in their academics. Part of the reason is that the distractions that they are exposed to in a coed school don't exist in an all-girls school.

2. Teachers are trained to teach girls - Girls need a different teaching style than boys do. In a coed school, the teachers adapt a teaching style that will be beneficial to both sexes. Since they don't have to do that in an all-girls school, their teaching style can focus more on techniques that can help girls maximize their learning. Girls learn better with verbal communication as opposed to boys who learn better with visual communication. Structuring an academic program and supporting that with a teaching style that complements the learning style of girls would be benefit the students immensely.

3. Girls take a leadership role - Being in school with boys have positive points, but it also has major drawbacks. Girls' leadership potential are usually stifled because boys compete for leadership roles. In an all-girls school, girls can finally stop being the audience and become actively involved in activities. Girls who are very shy often flourish in an all-girls school because they consider it a safer and friendlier environment.

4. Girls are taught Christian values - Studying in a Catholic boarding school for girls not only gives girls a chance of getting excellent education but also the kind of education that teaches Christian values. For many parents, academic excellence is not enough. What will prepare young women for life outside of school is their foundation. If their foundation is firmly rooted in Christian values, they have a better chance of making wise decisions when they matter most.

Perhaps one of the most important things that they can learn in Catholic boarding schools for girls is the truth that women can run things efficiently. Strong women can set good examples and inspire girls to dream and to set goals for themselves.
