North Dakota is a state found in the midwestern region of the United States. It lies along the Canadian border in the Manitoba and Sasketchawan area. One of the top 5 least populous states and least densely populated states in the US.
North Dakota has many ethnic influences that make up their diverse culture. Probably the biggest cultural influence is the American Indian culture. The annual pow-wow held in North Dakota's capital, Bismarck, is the biggest pow-wow in the country.
North Dakota also has several major museums and fine arts venues which include the North Dakota Museum of Art, the Fargo Theater, Empire Arts Center, and others. There are many professional musical ensembles that regularly perform throughout the year including the Minot Symphony Orchestra, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra among others.
The largest economic driver of North Dakota is agriculture. Other strong drivers include production of petroleum as well as the food processing industry. North Dakota was initially known for its influence in the fur trading and agricultural industry. Almost 90% of the land in North Dakota is used for agricultural purposes. Today, the state is a major producer of barley, buckwheat, corn, oats, and others. It's also a major producer of canola oil and supplies over 90% of the country's demand for it. Tourism is not a major economic driver for North Dakota mainly because most of the land in it is agricultural and there aren't much tourist spots that people can visit.
There are several public and private colleges and universities in North Dakota. The largest institutions in the state are the University of North Dakota and North Dakota State University. There are also tribal community colleges which serves as institutions for higher education serving minorities in the area. Most of these colleges are located near reservations.
