Missouri is a state in the midwestern region of the United States of America. It's considered to be a bellweather state because in all but two elections, presidential candidates who won in Missouri also won the national presidential elections. School attendance is compulsory in the state for children aged 7 to 17, which is the compulsory attendance age. It is legal to homeschool children in Missouri. Homeschoolers are not regulated or monitored by Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Missouri has several universities and colleges, including its flagship state public university system, University of Missouri. It's also the largest university and has universities located in different states.
Missouri also has the Missouri Scholars Academy which is an extracurricular program for high school students who are considered gifted. This program aims to provide gifted young people with added opportunities for learning in order to encourage them to realize their potential. The Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing is another public school for gifted children located at the Northwest Missouri State University.
There are also several Missouri boarding schools in the state. For example, Wentworth Military Academy which is a military school for boys and girls. The school also provides support for students with ADD/ADHD. There's also the Thomas Jefferson School which is a traditional college preparatory boarding school for boys and girls. It's a small, tightly-knit academic community where about 40% of their students receive financial aid.
