| Description: | St. Timothy's is a private college preparatory boarding school for girls in Maryland. Established in 1882, this school has crafted an academically challenging college-preparatory curriculum for girls, supported by small class sizes and competent, passionate educators. It's also the only exclusive girls' school in the US with an International Baccalaureate Program. The school offers 26 International Baccalaureate courses to students. It also offers ESL courses for students whose first language isn't English. The school only admits 150 students yearly, and about 30% of the student body is made up of international students. St. Timothy's is dedicated to educating the whole person and preparing young women to make their own contributions to a constantly changing world. The school's definition of "education" is the entire structured experences which students participate in. This includes not just their coursework but also the arts, athletics, extracurricular activities, and even the residential life that they share with other students and faculty members. The school emphasizes the importance of paying attention to all of these aspects of young women's education. The first two years of the students' mathematics, science, and world language studies are based on the IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education Curriculum). The first two years of religion, English, and history are humanities-based. There are Arts Foundation courses for junior year, and art elective courses for seniors. During the final two years the students spend in St. Timothy's, they will be given a curriculum that is authorized by the IBO (International Baccalaureate Organization). The school offers different sports programs for students including equestrian, indoor soccer, squash, volleyball, ballet, and others. There are also numerous extracurricular organizations to join such as Amnesty International, Art Club, Self Government Association, The Black Awareness Club, Book Club, and many more. St. Timothy's is accredited by NAIS, AIMS, IB World School, NAES, TABS, and NCGS. |
