| Description: | Oldfields School is an exclusive girls boarding school in Maryland which is committed to the intellectual and moral development of their students. The school cultivates a culture of kindness and mutual respect. Young women are helped to grow in character and confidence, are encouraged to pursue knowledge and develop honesty, and are taught to embrace their individuality, intellectual curiosity, and social responsibility. The heart of the school's purpose can be best summarized by their school motto - Fortezza, Umilitade, e Largo Core - Courage, Humility, and Largeness of Heart. Oldfields offers a traditional college preparatory academic program taught by supportive and passionate faculty members and in small classes. The average class size is 8 and the teacher to student ratio is kept low at 1:5. The school provides support for students with ADHD, language-based learning disabilities and learning differences. Students take five or six courses and classes meet in eighty-minute periods. Oldfields believe that there is a critical connection between the arts and other disciplines. The school provides a wide range of dance, fine arts, music and theater opportunities for students to explore, whether they are beginners or experienced artists. Students are required to take one year of art (performing or visual) in order to comply with the requirements of graduation. However, students who are more interested in art can also take extra art courses if they want to. Athletics is also an integral part of the school's goal to give a holistic education to students. The girls are required to participate in one team sport each year. The athletic program offers different sports including badminton, basketball, softball, tennis, equestrian, lacrosse, and more. Students can also get involved in a variety of afterschool activities such as Art Club, Drama Club, Book Club, Riding Club Student Council, Volunteer Program, and others. |
