Kentucky is a state in the east south central region of the United States. It's officially known as the Commonwealth of Kentucky, being one of the four commonwealth states in the country. Kentucky is known to have one of the most diverse environments in the country. It also has a lot of different natural resources, mostly because of it's fertile soil that makes it possible to feed different kinds of livestock.

Kentucky's nickname, the Bluegrass State, is based on the fact that its fertile soil allows bluegrass to grow throughout the state. It makes Kentucky an ideal grazing land, especially for thoroughbred horses.

Kentucky's climate can be classified as humid subtropical. It has a lot of parks, wildlife refuges, and recreational areas. There are several natural attractions that attract tourists who are looking for naturally beautiful landscapes. Some examples are Cumberland Falls State Park, Mammoth Cave National Park (also the longest known cave system), Land Between the Lakes, Jefferson Memorial Forest, and many more.

Like in other states, the Kentucky public education system includes Kindergarten through high school with several postsecondary institutions. Kentucky schools are accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Despite the stereotypes about the quality of education in the US Southern states, Kentucky is in fact one of the top 10 states in terms of number of people who hold college and advanced degrees.

The state also awards Commonwealth Diploma which was originally intended to encourage students to take on more challenging coursework. The Commonwealth Diploma is given to students who take at least four Advance Placement courses (English, Science or Math, Foreign Language, and an alective), take an exam for at least 3 out of 4 areas and have a combined score of at least 8 in those courses.
