| Description: | La Lumiere is a college preparatory lay Catholic boarding and day school in Indiana, located in the city of La Porte. Since 1963, La Lumiere has provided superb college preparatory academic programs to qualified young men and women from varied cultural backgrounds. The school seeks to develop in students a love of learning, a strong faith, and good character. The school is an independently accredited school and at the same time, faithfully follows in the Catholic heritage. The heart of La Lumiere's mission is to nurture the whole individual through an academically challenging environment. La Lumiere students are trained to use critical thinking, to express themselves proficiently in speaking and writing, and to act confidently based on solid Christian values. The academic program of the school provides a strong foundation in Mathematics, theology, morals, physical sciences, foreign languages, writing, and English literature. La Lumiere puts a lot of emphasis on proficiency in writing. The staff makes sure that every student can write at the university level before they graduate from high school. The school is aware that writing proficiently is a very useful skill to have in college. Students go through rigorous writing and reading exercises in order to improve their analytical skills and help them practice cohesive and logical thinking. The school also offers several Advanced Placement courses such as Calculus, Physics, US History and more. The school also encourages young people to take part in interscholastic sports in order to learn about sportsmanship, working with a team, and healthy competition. Some of the sports offerings in the school includes golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and many others. |
