District of Columbia, or what is more popularly known as Washington, D.C., is the capital of the USA. It's a federal district and so it's not part of any US state. The capital of District of Columbia is Georgetown, named after George Washington. Even if it's a small district, it ranks as number 24 in terms of population density compared with other states. With a population of 5.6 million, it's the 7th largest metropolitan area in the US.

The District of Columbia hosts several foreign embassies as well as the headquarters of institutions such as the IMF (International Monetary Fund), Inter-American Development Bank, and others. Along with 176 foreign country embassies, there are several museums and national monuments built in the district.

In terms of weather, District of Columbia has a humid subtropical climate. Spring and fall seasons are typically warm while winters are not bitterly cold. Blizzards and occasional violent storms (often referred to as nor'easters) also occur once in a while.

It's also the site of many national historic landmarks such as the Washington Monument, the White House, the National Archives, Library of Congress, and many others. DC is also considered to be a national center for the arts. It's home to the JFK Center for the Performing Arts, the National Theatre, and other centers where different art forms are performed and celebrated.

There are several colleges and universities in the District of Columbia. The most notable of which include Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, among others.

The District of Columbia's public school system is operated by DCPS (District of Columbia Public Schools). There are over 120 public schools and over 52 public charter schools in the district. There are also private boarding schools such as St. Albans School which is an Episcopal, college preparatory boarding school for boys.
