| Description: | Canterbury is an independent, coeducational college preparatory school for both boarding and day students grades 9-12. It aims to provide an academic environment where students can gain a love for learning and eventually become productive, moral leaders of the country. The Canterbury staff and faculty is passionate about helping students realize their potential and push the limits of their capabilities as scholars and as individuals. Canterbury has a good arts program where students can learn how to create sculptures, join a band, try out for musicals, and more. The school has state of the art facilities to accommodate performances and exhibits, and they also have an active portfolio development program for students who want to get involved with performing or visual arts as a profession. Canterbury also often invites local professionals to give private lessons and share their experiences with students in order to give students an idea of what the real-world scenarios could look like. Canterbury also has a strong athletics department which aims to help students and faculty members to form lasting bonds. Most coaches of the athletic department are also faculty members, advisors and dorm parents. Coaches regularly attend sports clinics and encourage students to do the same as well as enroll in sports camp during summers. Canterbury participates in interscholastic sports competitions such as the New England Prep School Athletic Conference, New England Division Championships, and more. Their sports program include basketball, lacrosse, squash, volleyball, wrestling, and many others. Participation in community service is also an important aspect of the lives of Canterbury students. Students, organizations, and dorms are encouraged to participate in at least one community service project for each school year. The school believes that encouraging students to participate in community service is a good way of giving back to the community as well as developing students who have a strong social conscience. The school is accredited by CAIS, NEACS, TABS, and SSATB. |
