Description: The Colorado Timberline Academy has a unique academic program that is goal-oriented. It places standards that each student must meet in order to progress at his/her own pace. The school only accepts 50 students at a time and creates a structured schedule for young people in order to help them cultivate good study habits and involve them in healthy physical activities.

The specialization of Colorado Timberline Academy is helping young people who seem to not be motivated in a traditional high school program. Students who are creative but are often a bit too different to fit into mainstream also find that they may be a good fit for a school. Children who have ADHD/ADD, learning disabilities, learning differences, or whose education were interrupted and need some remedial work in order to get back on track may also be helped by the school's academic program. The school can also help students who are capable but are not achieving academic success because they lack the motivation to do better.

The school provides a close, tightly-knit community that has a warm, family-oriented atmosphere. It provides a safe place for students to explore their ideas, make progress in their own pace, and take risks without being afraid of ridicule.

CTA uses the Bloc System rather than the traditional format of classes in mainstream schools. CTA divides an academic year into four or five week blocs. Students enroll in three classes per block, and each class lasts 90 minutes daily. This way, the students are immersed in an intensive classroom experience where there's a stronger feeling of accomplishment after each bloc is completed. It also helps students sustain a high level of interest in each class rather than dividing their attention on too many classes throughout the day.>
